Guide to Burning Life 2009

October 19, 2009 Daniel Voyager 2 comments

The 7th Burning Life in Second Life was officially opened at around 12pm SLT on Saturday 17th October 2009, with hundreds of residents attending the opening hours of BL09. I’m a BL Stage Manager and BL Greeter which I’m happy about.I managed to find a great BL09 outfit and you can view pics of that on my flickr stream. A few days before opening I had access to attend a sneak preview of the upcoming SL Burning Man burning event for 2009.

Burning Life 2009 is bigger than ever before it seems and this time I have the chance of attending Burning Life because in previous years I was still on the TG. This is brand new experience for me in Second Life, so far so good. I’ll be sharing SLURLs and updates though Plurk, Twitter and Facebook. Check there for BL09 updates.

My first throughts about BL09

  • Impressive art work
  • Great venues to enjoy the music
  • Amazed by the amount of regions there are to explore
  • Cool festival feeling
  • So many happy and helpful residents at BL09

Feedback from others about BL09

Fun things going on all the time
Very laggy and no fun
Always something going on at BL, it’s a must take part in event

This is my BL09 Guide

Stay Informed

If you have any BL09 guides, blogs, groups etc then feel free to post them in the comments section below. What were your first thoughts of Burning Life 2009 when it opened on 17th October 2009?. I hope that this guide will be handy, enjoy. Over and out! Have a great Burning Life experience.

Second Life registered accounts, October 2009

October 16, 2009 Daniel Voyager Leave a comment

When I was browsing through the Second Life Wikipedia page I found this under History section. I found the XML file linked to this update.

In October 2009, just over 16 million accounts were registered, although there are no reliable figures for actual long term consistent usage.

LINK

I do have a few Second Life stats widgets that displays data on how many total Second Life residents there are at any given time of the day on my SL Feeds Portal, LINK. Currently the data says there are more than 16,969,776+ registered signups for Second Life and that is expected to reach 17 million registered signups within the next month or so.  So at some point during 2010 we can hopefully expect to see a grand total of 20 million registered signups and more perhaps.

The average amount of Second Life logged in users at any given time at the moment is normally between 45, 000 to 75, 000+. We might see a big peak at the end of the year reaching the 90, 000 milestone perhaps or even better the 100, 000 milestone. The last new record for Second Life online active users was recorded back in March 2009 with 88, 220 around 1:30pm SLT.  Rewind the clock back even futher we reach the date when there was 1, 000, 000 residents signed up for Second Life, recorded on 18th October 2006. Second Life growth has been amazing over the years and I’m so glad I signed up for it during 2006.

We will just have to watch the fiqures. Check out my SL Metrics blog page for more interesting data and links.

Second Life Answers Status Levels

October 5, 2009 Daniel Voyager 2 comments

SL Answer Points

—————————————————————-

Second Life Answers Key Levels

Levels Replies/Points

Newbie = 0 -100
Novice = 101 – 500
Apprentice501 – 1500
Expert = 1501 – 3000
Master = 3001-1000

^^ Subject to change ^^

—————————————————————-

When answering questions for residents on Second Life Answers, you might of noticed that there is a points bar located under your picture. I currently have 29 points which is at the low end newbie level. I have recently found out the rest of the status level include Novice, Apprentice, Expert and Master levels.

By default, for example, Clearspace includes the following status levels: master (501-1000 points); junior (101-500 points); newbie (0-100 points).

This is very similar to Yahoo Answers points and levels system, which ranges from 1-249 to 26, 000+ points. There are other ways to get help and feedback in Second Life including using the SL Forums, SL Blogs, SL social networking sites and getting help by someone in-world. You can also receive points on the Commerce Forums for answering questions which is very neat.

A few things to remember

  • Participation and contributions really do count on Second Life Answers. Being Helpful is key!
  • Second Life Answers is not a competition or getting points and awards as such.
  • There’s no competition in helping people and providing answers.
  • If you want to challenge yourself, feel free to do that!
  • How to Participate in Second Life Answers
  • Second Life Blog and Forum FAQ

Second Life Answers

The best way to keep Second Life Answers as a good resource is for those who ask questions to remember to mark responses as helpful or correct.  After trying out the responses, you will know which ones to pick and this will make it more helpful for the next Resident looking at the same type question!

Yahoo Answers

To encourage participation and reward great answers

Levels are another way to keep track of how active you (and others) have been. The more points you accumulate, the higher your level. Yahoo! Answers recognizes your level achievements with our special brand of thank you’s!

And finally, as you attain higher levels, you’ll also be able to contribute more to Yahoo! Answers – you can ask, answer, vote and rate more frequently.

Some will think the status levels is a good thing to have, while others might be upset and agrey with having a points/levels system At the end of the day volunteering makes all the difference in Second Life and making sure everyone has that all important information to enjoy their Second Life to the full.

What do you think about Second Life Answers status levels ?

Good thing or bad thing ? Why?

New details released that the Second Life Forums will be merged and that it will be the same layout (style) of the new SL website and XStreet SL. From whats been said recently there will be a announcement within a week. So it will be all new and improved very soon.

There have been alot of new changes this year already including the new Second Life Blog, Second Life website, SL Dashboard, SL Answers and next in the pipe line is SL Forums. Most residents love the new changes where the others don’t like the new changes at all. In the near future we can expect new changes to the Second Life user-interface and the new installation layout including additional new changes to the new user experience. We will have to wait and see! :D
