New changes to SL Showcase tab

Recently I’ve discovered there used to be 6 tabs (March 2009) for Showcase but now there seems to be 7 (September/October 2009). Some main categories have been renamed and some have been replaced with new ones. I really love spending time exploring these exciting locations and the showcase tab really does have alot to offer everyone. Before the Showcase tab was the old popular places tab where it showed a list of places with a traffic count for each.

The Showcase tab in SEARCH displays popular best inworld locations of interest to exisitng and new residents of Second Life. You will see a list of interesting and cool places to visit in Second Life. This is AWESOME! :D

These are spots that have been identified by Linden Research as interesting places to visit. Showcase is split up into 7 category tabs: All, Arts & Recreation, Educationa & Nonprofit, Business & Enterprise, Help & Learn, Music and Hot Spots. Click on a blue landmark link then it will show information and a picture about that landmark in Second Life on the left. Click on Teleport to visit that cool showcase attraction. :)

Sending Postcards in Second Life

Sending Postcards in Second Life is great fun and you have the chance of sharing your adventures with your friends in Second Life or even in Real Life. Sending postcards just takes a few moments and then you will be done. Before you start sending postcards, make sure you join Second Life sharing sites, which supports SL postcards. Flickr, Snapzilla, Koinup, Mixoom and blogHUD are popular SL photo sharing sites you might to check out.

This is how you do it…

• Click Snapshot button at the bottom of your SL window (viewer)
• Select Send Va email
• Email Snapshot window appears
• Type in the Recipient’s Email, Your Email, Your Name, Subject and Message
• When you are happy with your snapshot, click on Send
• You will see a Sending… blue message for a few seconds
• You have successfully sent your SL postcard
• Yay!

Snapshot

• Send Via email = free
• Save to Inventory = 10L$ for uploads
• Save to your hard drive = free
• View pictures in your Inventory = Photo Album and Textures folder
• Don’t forget you can send pictures with the user interface on too

Removing Ruth Cloud in Second Life

SL Tutorial: @35

Method 1

• Right click on yourself
• Choose Appearance
• Exit Appearance – Adjusting sometimes will remove the ruth cloud

Method 2

• Changing things that you are currently wearing should help remove the ruth cloud

Method 3 -  (options)

• Relog will reset and will hopefully remove the ruth cloud
• Clear cache in Preferences
• Try to log into non-laggy places
• Loss of connection
• Rebake textures in advanced menu
• Disable Render Avatar Imposters in Edit > Preferences > Graphics tab should remove the cloud

More on Ruth

• Make yourself a cloud >> Open up the Advanced menu > Character > Force Params to Default
• get Ruth 2.0 inworld at the Stillman Free Bazaar!
• Previously before Ruth was just a default women avatar

• It’s clean
• It’s easy to navigate

• New button to launch Second Life straight away
• Redesigned land store and new web-based map

Downsides

• Showcase or video tutorials is not shown
• Could be slower for users (flash and videos)
• Xstreet and Transaction History are the two main issues at this time

Future (long term projects)

• New social media functionality
• More search improvements coming (long term project)
• The SL Dashboard will become fully customizable

How to Show and Hide Friend notifications in Second Life

1. Open Second Life
2. Edit > Preferences
3. Communication tab
4. Tick Show online Friend notifications
5. Untick it if you do not want to show online friend notifications when running Second Life
6. Click Apply and Ok

1, 000 channel views on my SL YouTube page

Wow.

Just passed the 1, 000 channel views mark on my sldanielvoyager YouTube channel. I joined on April 10th, 2008 to create Teen Grid videos to share with the community. I transferred to the Main Grid in December 2008 and continued uploading more quick videos to share with everyone. This month I’ve uploaded Friends Conference in Second Life, Showcase in Second Life, Residents on the Mini-Map and Lag Meter.

I’m working on improving the video quality and sound in future uploads. I’m using WeGame and CamStudio to film it all but I’ll be looking to find better ones out there to use soon.

More SL videos coming soon for sure! :)

SL Panoramas

Torley Linden has created a new wiki page including details about setting up panormas in Second Life, CLICK HERE. Torley did a tutorial back in December 2006 about how to make a beautiful Second Life panorama in 15 minutes too, CLICK HERE.  Second Life Panorama Tutorial

Recently Torley created a Here island panorama, 360-degree view of the island. There is a flickr group called SL Panorma where you can share your panormas with the rest of the Second Life community.

SL Feeds needs your feedback

I created my SL Feeds portal on 9th, March 2009, to share 24/7 SL community stuff with everyone, including SL News, SL Fashion, SL stats, SL Videos, TSL news and lot’s more. Since then my SL Feeds portal has been featured on New World Notes: Good Compilation of Second Life Blog Feeds which is just great to see. The popularity of my SL Feeds portal has grown alot and now my SL Feeds portal is featured 2nd in Google Results when you type “SL Feeds” in. The aim is to get no.1 spot sometime later this year which will be nice.

SL Feeds came out of testing on July 20th and now is version 1.0.  I’ll be expanding and adding more in upcoming weeks and months with exciting new SL tools and more SL RSS feeds. Your SL Account Friends Online – Tutorial 35

Quick tutorial for new residents in Second Life. Spread the word by telling others about this! :D

1. Go to http://secondlife.com/
2. Click Login.
3. Enter your Second Life name and Second Life last name followed by your password.
4. On the left hand side pane under My Account (blue menu) scroll down and click on Friends Online.
5. You can view all of your SL buddies online right now and find out how many are on too.
6. Refesh the page to update the online friends list.
7. You can View your friend profiles pictures by clicking on View Photos.
8. To find your SL contacts in-world, click on Communicate > Contacts
