SL History
Second Life
- Linden Lab was founded in 1999.
- In August 2001 SL was called LindenWorld.
- Closed beta began on November 2002, with public beta opening on April 2003.
- Second Life was launched on June 23rd 2003, developed by Linden Lab. CEO and founder Philip Rosedale (Philip Linden)
- First ever blog post created on the Official Second Life Blog on October 4th 2004
- On October 18th 2006 at 8:05:45 SLT, 1 million residents was recorded in Second Life
- Removal of Ratings in Beta in April 2007
- Windlight was built into the SL viewer (1.19.1) on April 2nd 2008
- Philip Linden stepped down as CEO in March 2008 and the new CEO M Linden took over in April 2008
- OnRez and XStreet SL was integrated on January 20th 2009
- SL6B Birthday – June 23rd 2009
- LL redesigns SecondLife.com – 27th August 2009
- Philip Linden moves on from LL – 16th October 2009
- SL Burning Life 2009 – 17th-25th October 2009
Teen Second Life
2005
- Teen Second Life was officially opened on February 14th 2005.
- TG Amnesty period, new terms and rules were created in 2005.
2006
- On January 1st 2006 the teen grid operating hours increased to 24 hours a day, came out of beta, was previously opened from 12pm to 10pm SLT
- Blue Linden was in charge of the Teen Grid in January 2006 and stepped down as TG Linden Manager in December 2008
- Eye4you opens to the public in late 2006
2007
- Teen Grid Unification Project started in April 2007
- TSL YAM meeting in April 2007
- TSL celebrates TSL4B
- TSL Volunteer Island created in December 2007 and was closed down in early 2009
2008
- First TSL Debate was hosted in late January 2008 by Teens. Blue and Mia Linden too
- Torley Linden visits TSL on 12th February 2008
- TG Protest against Desire
- TG Bay City regions opened on 13th of May 2008
- Torley Linden’s TSL Q&A session from 2-3pm SLT – 25th June 2008
- TSL Drunk A Linden – 26th June 2008
- M Linden visits TSL on 3rd July 2008
- I-World Village is created in late July 2008
- TG Orientation Island was removed in August 2008
- Pinkwater Mail was removed in August 2008
- Teagan Linden does first office hour on the TG, end of August
- SLCC08 was live in TSL at Eye4you Nasa Space Station in September 2008
- TSL Forums Linden Answer section was shut down in October 2008
- TSL WinterFest 2008 was hosted on 10th of December 2008
2009
- TSL Volunteer Island was removed and TSL Mentors program was shut down in early 2009
- SL6B Teen was copied over from the Teen Grid to the Main Grid for Second Life 6th Birthday celebrations in July 2009
- Eye4you Alliance island shuts down on the 12th of July 2009, Eye4you Alliance Blog.
